Body microneedling combined with fat-reducing and draining actives is one of the fastest-growing applications in professional body aesthetics. Using a dermapen or dermaroller on areas affected by cellulite, localised fat or oedema allows actives such as caffeine, phosphodiesterase inhibitors or the lipolytic cocktails from the BCN range to reach the adipocytes and dermal connective tissue directly, significantly enhancing their effects.
Types of cellulite and microneedling approach
Grade I: Subclinical cellulite
Not visible at rest; appears when the tissue is compressed. The skin has a slightly irregular texture. Superficial microneedling (0.5–0.75 mm) with draining actives improves microcirculation and skin appearance. Good response with early treatment.
Grade II: Mild to moderate cellulite
Visible when standing without compression. Moderate "orange peel" texture. Microneedling at 0.75–1.0 mm with lipolytic and draining actives produces visible improvements from 4–6 sessions.
Grade III: Established cellulite
Visible in all positions, with palpable nodules and signs of liposclerosis. Microneedling acts on connective tissue fibrosis (breaking hardened fibrous septa) and enhances local lipolysis. Requires more intensive protocols (6–10 sessions).
BCN actives for volume reduction and cellulite
Caffeine (BCN Classics)
Caffeine is the reference active in topical fat reduction. It acts as a competitive inhibitor of intracellular phosphodiesterase in adipocytes, raising cAMP levels, which activates hormone-sensitive lipase and promotes triglyceride hydrolysis (lipolysis). Applied with a dermapen at 0.5–1.0 mm on thighs, buttocks or abdomen, its penetration and concentration in the target tissue is vastly superior to conventional topical application.
BCN Adipo Cocktail
A multi-component formulation designed specifically for cellulite treatment:
- Phosphodiesterase inhibitors (lipolytic action)
- Plant extracts with draining and microcirculatory action
- Actives that improve capillary permeability
BCN Adipo Forte Cocktail (Contouring)
An intensive version of BCN Adipo for treating grade II–III cellulite or more pronounced localised adiposity. The higher concentration of lipolytic actives makes it especially effective when combined with prior mechanical body work (manual lymphatic drainage, pressotherapy) to prepare the tissue.
BCN Control Cocktail (Astringent)
A formulation with astringent actives and sebaceous secretion regulators, also useful for skin prone to fluid retention. In the body context, it is used to improve skin tone and firmness in areas with loss of turgidity.
Body microneedling protocol for cellulite and volume
Preparation
- If the client has received lymphatic drainage or pressotherapy in a previous session (same week), wait 48–72 hours before microneedling.
- Prepare the area with a neutral pH gel cleanser.
- Do not apply a heat-generating active beforehand in the same session (it may excessively potentiate erythema).
Device and parameters
- Dermaroller (1.0–1.5 mm): efficient for large surfaces (thighs, buttocks)
- Dermapen (0.75–1.0 mm): more precise for specific areas or combined with focal tapping on nodules
- Work in multiple passes until achieving moderate, uniform erythema
Active application
Apply a generous amount of BCN Adipo Cocktail or BCN Adipo Forte before and during device passes. On individual sclerotic nodules, perform additional focal tapping at greater depth to break local fibrosis.
Post-treatment
- Apply a soothing moisturising cream (not a concentrated lipolytic active, which may increase erythema)
- Avoid direct sun exposure on treated areas for 48–72 hours
- Moderate physical activity is recommended the following day to enhance lipolysis
- Drink plenty of water
Combination with other techniques
The best results for cellulite and volume reduction are achieved by combining microneedling with other body techniques:
- Pressotherapy: perform 1–2 pressotherapy sessions per week to optimise lymphatic drainage and enhance the elimination of lipids mobilised by the lipolytic actives
- Manual lymphatic drainage: prepare the tissue before microneedling to improve active reception
- Body radiofrequency: complementary during the maintenance phase to improve skin firmness and quality post-treatment
